Reserva Nacional Río Simpson
Area: Ruta 240, entre Puerto Aysén y Coyhaique
Protected wilderness area managed by CONAF, covering nearly 40,452 hectares, preserving the Río Simpson valley between Puerto Aysén and Coyhaique. Its main access is alongside Ruta 240, about 30 kilometers from Puerto Aysén, where an Environmental Information Center features exhibits on the area's flora, fauna, and history. Its rugged terrain, with peaks exceeding 1,600 meters, gives rise to ravines and waterfalls such as Velo de la Novia and La Virgen, visible from the highway. Notable trails include the Circuito Cordillerano, approximately 6 kilometers long with medium difficulty, as well as an environmental interpretation circuit. Ideal for hiking, birdwatching, and recreational fishing on the Río Simpson, renowned for its trout.
