Area: Ruta 240, entre Puerto Aysén y Coyhaique
Protected wilderness area administered by CONAF, covering nearly 40,452 hectares, preserving the Simpson river valley between Puerto Aysén and Coyhaique. Its main access is along Ruta 240, approximately 30 kilometres from Puerto Aysén, where an Environmental Information Centre features exhibits on the area's flora, fauna and history. Its rugged terrain, with peaks exceeding 1,600 metres, gives rise to ravines and waterfalls such as Velo de la Novia and La Virgen, visible from the highway. Among its trails, the Circuito Cordillerano stands out, spanning approximately 6 kilometres at medium difficulty, along with an environmental interpretation circuit. It is ideal for hiking, birdwatching and recreational fishing on the Simpson river, renowned for its trout. Photo: Maokru — CC BY-SA 4.0, via Wikimedia Commons.
